As long someone speaks to Zara in mandarin (after school hours)..then no worries. BAck in Primary School, my mandarin was so bad because no one at home spoke the language. and in school, those who were from Mandarin speaking families..their level is so high..and i found it hard to converse with them. i remembered i spoke cantaonese most time in school.. n my mom said i picked up the dialect from TV… must be TVB then.

Yiu Yiu does that a lot too, using English to substitute for Mandarin words she doesn’t know. I should make an effort to “correct” her and tell her the proper Mandarin words – if I know 🙂

That gong ji, mu ji, xiao ji, kaypohjee is a usual game Yiu Yiu plays with me too 🙂

well done to zara…. at least she can master min 3 languages…my mandarin is out – having hard time just to construct simple full sentence…

i can see the kids are doing their part, do keep up the good works. Very soon they can speaks Mandarin like a pro!

keep it up Zara.. it’s not easy to do Mandarin when used to speak in English.. I gone through this myself.. but end of the day, it’s a good ‘handy’ tool.. “D

this is rather sad to me that nowadays many young Chinese don’t know simple Chinese/madarin well even though they attends chinese schools.

“会”和“懂“是有差的。。。如果，只要求孩子会讲读写简单中文的父母不如直接请补习老师教就好了。何必把孩子送去华校呢。无意中，他们也使华校变质了，因为家长不重视，孩子们也都不重视华文呀。华文老师们也教的很辛苦。。 =（

That’s a good way to improve their Mand. I try to encourage the kids to speak more Mand at home but we speak a lot of mixed languages coz I myself dunno a lot of Chn words. :p

hahahaha…….I’m sure you enjoyed their mandarin speaking day.

For Xandria, we speak Mandarin at home… her first converse with the Philipino maid was in that Stephen Chow’s english. You know what i meant. Very funny thought… but now, she can speak not so fluent but proper english with the maid, also mix with Mandarin sometimes.
