Malaika too, she doesn’t really know how to read the notes too. Some pieces she memorizes, some not. Since I have to practice with her and I with no musical backgrounds, I write down all the notes in c, d, e… so that I can teach her. YOu know, the one who knows how to play piano has no patience to teach his precious daughter.

BTW, my girl too, likes to add ‘compose’ music… and she likes to play with chords. In fact, she likes it so much that her piano teacher gave her some pieces with chords. And she enjoys playing them.

Well done, Zara…

Btw, do you plan to switch her to Royal Music? Cos I saw her singing Do, Re, Mi, Fa, So…. whereby in real music, we go c, d, e, f, g, a, b, c..

I was ex JMC then switch to Royal Music grade 1-8. I think I took JMC for 3 yrs. and when i switch over, hard time to re-learn the notes.

My niece was a trinity college first prize winner and she is excellent in her pianowork. and we used to worry about her memorizing her pieces during her JMC days:)

They have excellent hearing abilities but is weaker in notes-reading as their training focuses a lot on listening. Pros and cons of the different pedagogies
