Bye Bye Our Companion
After 8years of working with us, Tuyam finally decided to go home for good, to get married and start a family.
She may not be the most efficient or productive maid, but we’re used to each other. She cooks well, we trusted her, and Zara was in her care since day 1 (this was when Tuyam picked up most of her English). I vent my frustration to her about Daddy, In-laws and sometimes work (whether or not she understood or able to fully comprehend me, she listened).
Yesterday, we drove her to the airport and bid her farewell. Only my Filipino maid, Jelly, was in tears, Tuyam has been her companion since she started working with us in March 2007.
All of us have been preparing Zara for Tuyam’s departure, but I think she didn’t know that this time her kakak wasn’t coming back anymore (unlike previous years where Tuyam went home for holidays and came back). Zara has been saying things like, “I’m going to lock all the doors, so kakak cannot go home.” or “Kakak go back Indonesia, buy me mangos and princess bajus (Malay : clothes) when you come back ok?”
Last night before sleeping, Zara told me, “Mummy I want kakak.” When I told her kakak has already gone, she replied, “I’m going to take a rope and catch the aeroplane. Then I’m going swing the aeroplane so everybody will get dizzy and the plane cannot fly any more. I’ll bring kakak home!” She then came back to reality and said, “We’ll go Indonesia for holiday and visit kakak when kakak get married. Or kakak will come for holidays, right?” That’s what Daddy had agreed, we’ll visit Tuyam sometime this year in Indonesia, or she can always stay with us when she comes to Malaysia for holiday.
Even Zaria is missing Tuyam, this morning she woke up and started calling out, “Kakak.. kakak…”
Bye bye Tuyam, you may not be the best maid but you’d been our companion and we will all miss you.
Always difficult to part company with someone who’s always been there, especially for 8 whole years.. That is a long long long long time…
take a rope to catch the aeroplane then swing it?? wow, i like this!!! Cool.
btw, 8 years is very long time!!!
wish i can write something like this for a maid…but so far we’ve not been so lucky, even the maid who’s worked with my us for 8 years left with stealing!
oopss with my us pulak…with my mom & us… I meant…
Seems like Zara understands that Kakak has left for good. Well, it’s just a matter of time b4 both the girls get used to not having Tuyam around. I’m wondering how the kids (esp XY) wud be react when Kakak goes back for good in Mac.
awww tuyam has gone home!??
and the way zara described about taking thr rope to catch the aeroplane is just too cute!!!
I cried when my maid of 6 years left last May but with the current one, I don’t think I would shed a single tear for her.. 😛
Hope Zara & Zaria cope well with Jelly.
alamak. balik liow ah yr maid? guess the kids will have to get use to her not being around… hope jelly will be a replacement for the kids now…
Sound like Zara wanted to hijack the plane..LOL
how clever of zara to swing the aeroplane so people get dizzy before she go rescue her kakak? good imagination leh. impressive giler..
haha.she’s really funny. guess she’s gonna miss tuyam alot huh
so now jelly cooks for all of u?
u must be a good employer too since she stayed for so long! a good trustworthy helper is hard to come by huh.
Poor girl..I’m sure she’ll miss the maid..Hope that she can get use to Jelly. I thought tuyam was supposed to go back and help you again?
You are lucky to have good maid! 8 years ler, so long u know.
Jelly’s name very sweet lar!
it’s kind of rare but of course good that such a rel/ship has developed betw a master & its’ domestic maid…..how everybody has wish for!!
so now u will be served by the filipino maid (who has been trained for many months)….i wonder what’s the difference betw them?
I find it so amusing the way Zara wants to bring kakak back from the aeroplane. Very interesting to hear her lines of thoughts and reasonings.
You are fortunate to have a maid of 8 years. With all the maid stories I hear, I dare not try take one. Die die also I will try to cope without maid…until and unless no choice.
Wow – 8 yrs. She may not be that efficient, but at least she was dependable. That is also very important.
8 years is pretty damn long! I hope the girls will get used to not having her around. The way Zara wants to catch the plane is so cute! Hehe!
it seems everybody got amused by Zara’s word about bringing back her kakak back. She is so cute with her words…btw, 8 years?? i wondered how you train her…
Zara migth take some time to get used to Tuyam not being around. So funny of her idea to make everyone dizzy on the plane.. so can get kakak back! Really imaginative.
Thats very touching. Its a change to hear a non-horror maid story for a change.
a whole 8 eights to be actively involved in a growing family of 2 to 4…from you and hub to little Zara and then baby Zaria… watching the little angels grow and caring for them. i’m sure your family will be memorable to her too.
8 years is really a long time and I think she’ll miss your girls as much as they miss her. So are you getting another maid or will make do with Jelly alone?
it is sure difficult to get a good maid…..but who knows, u might get better one later 🙂
8 years and you didn’t shed a tear?? o_O
All I can say is you are lucky to have a maid who stayed for so long.
8 yrs is really long time i am sure Zara misses her very much….no tomyam edi..only left jeli..
Zara is really creative and determine!
bye bye Tuyam, and best of luck!
wow 8 years .. that’s a long time.
the way zara said to take a rope and catch the plane sounds so cute.
Tuyam sounds more than a maid! I found myself sharing stuff with the Chinese helper also when she comes in…and tempted to extend her days instead of trying a new one because we’re used to each other.
Having her around for 8 years, it’s gonna take Zara time to cheer up. Hope Jelly can help!
