Zaria’s Speech Development
It’s getting really interesting with Zaria, who starts to say words here and there based on her understanding of things and her perception of the world.
She calls a banana, Nana
Any type of fruits besides banana to her is Ah-Per (as in Apple).
A cat to her is, Cat (evolved from AO).
A duck to her is Duck duck
Any other furry animals besides a cat is Eh-bit (as in Rabbit).
Any flying creatures, birds, bugs is Bird bird
She calls every body except Jelly.
Zawa or Jeh-jeh for Zara
Papa for Daddy
Mummy for me
Kakak for Tuyam
Yeh-Yeh for FIL
Ah-Ter for older looking men and Kor kor for younger looking boys.
Bay-Bee for toddlers and babies.
And she calls herself “Meh-mei” for Mei-mei
When she wants milk, she calls for me, “Mummy” (signs milk) and says “Milk”(yes, perfect sounding),ΓΒ then she’ll proceed to lie down on the bed or point to the sofa where I normally feed her.
After feeding, she likes to press on my breast and cheekily says, “Pee Peet” while flashing a smile.
She knows when to use Please. E.g.
Request for biscuit, “Ker Ker (Biscuit), (points to the biscuit, and then to her palm which is “more” or “want” sign) “Pis”
Wants me to get her the doll, “Doh Doh! (points to the doll, and then to her palm) Pis.”
Wants to go some where, “Go (points to the location), pis.”
She likes to stroke people and says “Ah Yang” (Sayang, Malay : Pat lovingly).
She likes to be held and walk about now, she says “Walk walk” and holds out her hand to be assisted.
She answers “K” for OK or Yes. E.g. “Zaria wants to go upstairs”; she’ll answer “K” and smiles.
She says NO by either saying “No” or makes the sound “Ugh!” while frowning.
Once we saw Zara snatching a toy from Zaria, while saying “This is Jiejie’s!” and Zaria shouted back, “Meh-Mei!” .
Another time, Zara tried to replace a toy Zaria was holding with something less interesting, and Zaria shouted, “No!”. Zara replied with a “Yes”. And Zaria responded with another “No!”. It was cute seeing them talk to each other like that (Maybe it won’t be so cute any more when the real verbal fight begins).
Then today, when Daddy showed her his pair of socks next to hers, and said, “Zaria, see, Daddy’s socks so BIG.”. Instead, Zaria smiled and pointed at him “BIIIIG Papa!”
I asked Daddy if these were a fluke shot, but Daddy said it can’t be, based on the way she interacts and communicate with us. She is doing as well as her sister in terms of language development at 1 year old. Fun!
Wow, she’s one smart lady, this Zaria! Amazing! And she already knows which computer she wants!
She is so smart. How do you teach a baby to talk so soon? Any advice for my future kids? So clever like baby shern…
I so envy you. How did you teach her to talk so soon? Mine is 19 mths already, he only know Ma, Mak, & Mo.
Cayden can only say mum mum for food…Aihs..Sart Pai..
wah, zaria so keng wan…! my little girl only 2 or 3 days younger than zaria…but can only say PAPA (if she’s in a good mood) and MAMA (if she sees her chut-chut π ) aihhhss…
she’s really good with her speech. π i like the way she say please in her own way .. hehe so cute π
another zara in the making! how do you do it?
ppl commented on my girl too on her speech, even her doctor and i know it’s not me for sure! why i say this is i don’t read to her as much as i shld nor do we let her see tv programs till recently. i’m contemplating it’s either the daycare or kindermusik. guess i will experiment the same with no. 2 and c if it’s the case. π
well done!
that’s amazing development, some more so polite with “pis”..:)
oh my god…see her hair…very soft….let me pat her….so cute…
haha.. i like the way zaria says ‘eh-bit’ for rabbit. so cute. Reminds me of my cousin when he’s young, he used to shout ‘bak bak bak!’ while he stands by the house gate every evening.. we get confused, until we start to realize tat he’s actually trying to say BUS whenever the school bus passed by.
wow…Zaria really has an amazing development. Guess like her sister, Zara.

Wow, I’m really impressed by her speech. π

So yound can “fight” with jiejie oldedi, really clever girl.
I am amaze by her speech development. Qi Yu is vacab is not as many as Zaria’s yet.
SO CUTE!! Lol. Aww.. The wonders of having children. Third one or two is enough??
both your girls are very intelligent and fast in development, being able to articulate at such a young age! you must be a very proud mama. π
That’s great! You have very communicative girls and soon, they’ll be chatting non-stop together! It’ll be interesting to find out their first conversation.
Very very impressive!
