Langkawi – The Datai
Continue from here.
After 2 nights in Berjaya, we moved to our luxurious room in The Datai on our last day. Yes, that was how I compromised, 2 nights in Berjaya, 1 night in Datai.
I have to say, it’s no wonder Datai is ranked as the no. 2 hotel in Tripadvisor (at this time of writing). The minute we stepped in, they knew who I was (from our entourage I guess); we were escorted to the bar for our welcome drink (luxurious juice and not those run down cordial), and were given cold towels to freshen ourselves; my forms were brought to me for signing.
From the number of people I recorded in my booking, the room was prepared to cater for us. I asked for a cot in my booking, but they did more! One of the day bed has been converted to a bed, and extra bath robes and towels were provided without me requesting. They really look into the details.
The room was very spacious and comfortable; we even got our own Lavazza coffee machine in the room (freshly brewed coffee as and when we wanted!), the service impeccable, and the resort just blends in beautifully with the surrounding rainforest.
Girls chilling (1st top left pix was from Berjaya, the rest fr Datai)
Unlike popular believe, Datai does welcome young guests. It’s just that the main pool is restricted to adults and the young guests have to use the pool at the Beach Club (where the beach is), which is a nice stroll away through the rainforest.
At the Beach Club, beach towels are brought to you, you get ice water served, and also cold face towels delivered. After we moved to Datai, we didn’t go out any more for meals, we just wanted to fully enjoy the service and facilities.
The beach is nicer and cleaner, with softer sand. It doesn’t have the shallow pools like the ones in Berjaya though, but still, the kids have fun.
They don’t have a shallow wading pool or a baby pool, but Zara with her floats on, could be left alone playing in the pool, we just kept an eye on her from a far. As for Zaria, she refused to put on her neck float, and preferred to sit at the steps of the pool just splashing water.
I also have my birthday eve dinner at the Beach Club. Zara was dining for free, but the chefs actually took the trouble to prepare something not in their buffet menu for her. The following day’s lunch, when I was undecided on what to order for Zara, the waitress asked what type of food Zara likes, and the waitress got the kitchen to made her fried rice with ikan bilis (Malay : white baits) which wasn’t on the menu! What can I say about the service?
When we asked for a late check out because our flight was close to 6pm, I was thinking even 1hr later would be nice. The front desk requested for our flight details, and then told us we can have the room till 3pm! What a delight! Snob hotels like Equatorial should really learn from them.
I so regret we didn’t stay there for 2 nights as Daddy had suggested, especially since they are running the Rainforest Promo where the rate is almost half of the published rate. I was just trying to be nice to Daddy’s pocket. *Sigh* By the way, price for local meals in Datai is almost the same as what Bon Ton charges, I just think Bon Ton is overcharging!
Overall, it was quite a nice trip, except Daddy and I have no time for ourselves, and we seemed to need double of the time to do everything. More time needed for everybody to shower and get ready, more time needed to finish a meal, so, we have less time to go around or visit other parts of the island.
We have to plan for another trip before year end and I wonder if we should bring one of the maids this time.
wow!! that sounds like fun…!! i guess because Langkawi is a tourist attraction place and also Datai caters for the rich and famous thats why u get good
service!! =))
ZMM : What I like is.. even though we’re not ang-mohs and we’re not rich and famous, they still treat us equally.. Some snob hotels will actually behave differently towards different types of guests, which I don’t see Datai doing. That’s why I think the service is great!
Wei so good service, even cook for zara. Cool. Maybe we shud make the next trip there after i make more money first ….sure very expensive
wow! it’s good that you paid alot for erally good service..beats having to pay alot and where service sucks!
Datai is very good. We used to enjoy ourselves there too. 🙂 Glad that the kids had fun. And the chef was really good, ey? Worth it lah! 🙂
with the amount Datai guests are paying, I m sure they need to be up to their standard. Good to feel happy so it is worth every single cent paid for this luxury 🙂
1 night in such a good resort really not enough!!
i normally stay in Holiday Villa for my Langkawi trip! Next time must try others!!
ZMM : Actually, Langkawi hotel really not cheap.. better ones are around RM500.. 😐
Zara sure knows how to give her killer look! So cute! Lol!
Good that they love water – a lot of children are scared of water. 😀 Looked like a nice break eh! 😀 And happy belated birthday!!
Wow… Zara & Zaria really had great fun on the holiday. Anyway, how much have you paid for the Datai??? The price on their website really shocked me.. nearly RM2k for deluxe room….
Must go to the Datai next time! Must go to the Datai next time! Great pics too.. I like the 3pm checkout thing.
Wow… you went to Datai!!!! Cool. How did you get to the beach? The last time we were there for dinner, the waiter told us there is no direct access to the beach. Just need to verify if he’s telling the truth…
ZMM : There’s a path that leads there from the lower 3rd floor. The other way is buggy, which the hotel will provide and drive you there. You have to go out using the mainroad and in between Andaman and Datai turn into a small road.
You’re one brave lady to travel without your maids. I don’t think I could manage if I was in your shoes. I would definitely bring along one of my maids, so that a holiday IS really a holiday!
heard a lot of Datai but never got the chance to go…
you are great able to manage to young kids without maid…
im impressed with the sevice! It’s really good service provided there! It’s the extra miles that worth the praises!
I can see Zaria napping pics here (again!!)…bet she muz be so tired after all the fun!
wooo…The Datai! My hub (then fiance) and I got to stay there for 3 days 2 nights, for free!!! I even got to fly Biz Class there..for FREE!!!
All thanks to my hub’s ex boss. He absolutely refused to stay in a lower class hotel. I LOVED IT!!! We had our dirty weekend there!! HA HA HA!! Although he had to work…but, hey….leisurely working and fishing at the same time? WHY NOT????
It’s so nice to stay at luxury , hand and foot, eh?
ZMM : Wah.. what does your hubby work as huh? Four Seasons 1 time.. Datai another.. working for some rich people.
wah really so good ar? must be very well -trained by someone foreign..(m not saying msians are not concerned, we sometiems overlooked:P)
hey.. happy belated birthday!! birthday at langkawi, with the sun and the beach and 2 beautiful girls and your husband.. what a treat! here’s wishing you plenty more happiness to come, loads of love and all the good things in life!
ZMM : Thank you ya! 😛
The question is how much did you pay for Datai? It is good to hear of excellent service which is lacking in many industry.
happy belated birthday…so langkawi was as much a promise from zara’s daddy as your birthday pressie.
Yah, The Datai is very famous. You all really hv fun and what a great and relax place to be…
ohhhh – just makes me wanna book the hotel and flight tickets pronto!!
wow! this is tempting but i don’t think my Apah will ever foot out the cost for a holiday like this…so i must wait n seeeee…..
so fun …. definitely must make a trip there … 🙂
great the kids enjoy themselves.
Hey, in the 2nd collage, Zaria looks like having 2 ponytails on her head when they are actually 2 men walking in the background! 😀
Oooh, the Datai.. I like! It sure sounds very relaxing, what with the excellent service and all…
you sure had a nice trip.. i love the close-up picture of zara. like a model..
ok datai. must note it.
Sounds like a wonderful hotel. Such attention to detail.
Everything seems to take longer when travelling. When we travel we have to adjust from three showers to one shower. Really creates a bottle neck. Especially, when the kids are watching cable shows we do not have at home.
Hey if you wanna be tagged, then you are. 🙂 Always willing to help a friend.
And happy birthday too! *whacks head for not saying sooner*
happy belated birthday to u!
i wonder y the sand at xpensive resorts is always whiter, cleaner, softer then other parts of the island or beach. did they actually buy the sand elsewhere n dump it there??lol.
ZMM : Because expensive resorts normally build their resorts in nicer places. I don’t believe Four Seasons will want to build their resort in swampy area (unless that’s the attraction) or beaches with sharp corals kua. 😛
as for the coming trip…leave the maids at home lor. bringing one of them along will create another set of problem/hassle of its own i’m sure.
ZMM : Actually, still working on this..
I saw maids, with ‘s’. Gosh! How many of them do you have? And Datai is such a treat but a well-deserved one, since you birthed two lovely girls!
I follow your link to the Datai website, and it’s not really cheap hor…but i’m really impressed with their service! That’s what a real holiday should be mah…being waited upon like Kings and Queens hehe…We’re contemplating a short trip in Nov (if hubby keep his promise lah), maybe i can consider Langkawi…
the Datai! that was the very first, very “posh” resort more than 10 years ago when I went to Langkawi for a holiday with my family. glad they’ve upheld their name with good service and all!

Sometimes it’s important to spend on hotels (that provide really good services) to truly enjoy a good holiday.
I take half boiled eggs too! But with loads of pepper and soy sauce
Your girls are gorgeous! ‘Cause of the pics I can feel my maternity instinct kicking in… and I’m only 20
ZMM : I love mine with lots of pepper and soy sauce too..
Btw, when I was in secondary school, I always wanted to get married at 18, so that I could have babies since I like kids so much.
The kids look like they have a great time. Probably a good idea to bring one of the maids along if you and your hubs want to have some time to chill out.
Happy belated birthday to u Agnes!
Last time i stayed is their sister hotel – Andaman, I heard Datai is good, nv thought their service is so great. Now u make me feel like going there.
Zara is really photogenic, especially with the photo of her holding the bucket. very pretty! Maybe I should consider Datai for travelling. It looks like a spa paradise!
Happy belated birthday to you! For the 100th time, I really admire your courage in bringing both kids for a long holiday – both of them look like they had a lot of fun 🙂 Zaria looks so cute in the bathrobe!
Hi Agnes,Happy belated birthday to u! looks like the kids is having fun 😀
I am impressed by what you wrote about the Datai. I don’t wanna ask how much it cost though as I believe it should be pretty expensive but good to see that you guys had the opportunity to savour their wonderful service 😉 Wonderful way to celebrate your birthday! Btw, happy belated.
